Speech and Language Program

What is a speech therapist?

In a nutshell, a speech therapist specializes in the identification and remediation of speech and language delays. A person might exhibit difficulty with speech production, such as producing fluent sound with appropriate resonance, intonation, pitch, and volume. A language delay might include difficulty with the rules of language, including how we manipulate sound, how we construct sentences according to rules of grammar, our knowledge and use of words, and finally the social aspect of communication. Many children grow up with speech and language delays that can extend into adulthood if untreated, making it difficult to do well in school and in the workplace. Communication is a crucial part of daily living.

At Olive Crest Academy, our speech therapy department utilizes evidence-based techniques, along with a variety of therapy materials, to help our students find their voice.
